If youdefy someone or something that is trying to make you behave in a particular way, you refuse to obey them and behave in that way.

defy, resist

这组词都可作“抵制”解。其区别是：

前者表示出于阻止对方的行为而采取对立行动; 后者则含有果断、好斗且勇气十足的意味,伴有更公开、更尖锐的反抗行动。

oppose，defy，withstand，resist

这些动词均含有“反抗、抵抗”之意。

oppose普通用词，可表不同程度的抵抗。

defy指公开地、勇敢地反对或抵抗，有时含公然挑衅之意。

withstand较正式用词，指坚强地抵抗攻击或压力，有时也指抗拒影响或吸引力。

resist指积极地反抗一种攻击、暴力或诱惑。
